About the AlphaSense
AlphaSense is an AI-powered market intelligence platform used by business and financial professionals to research companies, markets, and industries faster. Its platform helps customers find insights across 500M+ documents and serves more than 6,500 enterprise customers, including 88% of the S&P 100.
As its proprietary content library grew, and as more large enterprise customers began uploading content into the platform, backup stopped being a background infrastructure task. It became part of the service standard AlphaSense needed to uphold with customers who expect strong recoverability, governance, and trust.
The Challenge

AlphaSense was operating at a massive scale in AWS, with PBs of proprietary data supporting a platform used by sophisticated enterprise and financial customers. As more proprietary data and customer content were uploaded to the platform, the company needed a data protection and recovery strategy that could withstand real scrutiny.
The pressure was not only about scale. AlphaSense could always recover data, but the existing approach no longer aligned with the real RTO and RPO expectations that came with its growth, its enterprise customer base, and the availability commitments underpinning those relationships.
The project quickly became an executive priority. The business was growing fast, customer expectations around governance and recoverability were rising, and the team needed a protection strategy that matched the scale of the environment and the compliance expectations that come with serving enterprise and regulated customers.

Why Eon
Better technology, believable efficiency, and a stronger long-term fit
AlphaSense was not looking for backup coverage alone. The team needed a recovery approach that it could stand behind with enterprise customers, one that could scale with the environment and make sense for the business.
Internally, the evaluation came down to four things: security, simplicity, compliance, and cost. Eon checked the boxes that AlphaSense needed to meet SOC-aligned and regulated-industry customer expectations.

Cost still mattered. At first, the team was skeptical that Eon would really come out ahead once AlphaSense applied its own assumptions. That changed when Eon explained why the platform is more efficient by design and worked through the model using AlphaSense’s own numbers.

The Solution
AlphaSense started with cloud-native backup for its largest data footprint
Eon became AlphaSense’s cloud-native, agentless backup platform for AWS, with the initial phase centered on protecting its massive storage footprint. That was the right place to start. Storage held the biggest concentration of data and the clearest need for a stronger recovery model.
Instead of staying on a narrower native-first or replication-led path, AlphaSense put a true backup strategy in place for PBs of data, with a stronger recovery model.
The rollout moved quickly. AlphaSense completed its initial backup in 3 days and reached production in 25 days.
