Cloud waste went up this year, but your dashboards aren't showing where.

Every Sunday, Victor Garcia sends out FinOps Weekly, the largest newsletter in the practice, read by thousands of cloud professionals. He spends the rest of the week as a cloud engineer building products on GCP, which means the waste he writes about is also waste he has to find in his own accounts. And 2026 handed him plenty of material: Flexera's State of the Cloud measured wasted spend at 29 percent, the first increase after five years of steady decline, with AI workloads leading the drivers.

This session picks up where the newsletter leaves off: the waste that never reaches a dashboard because it sits inside the resources themselves, in old database dumps, snapshots outside any retention rule, and disks that outlived their instances, below where billing and utilization telemetry can see.
