Microsoft 365 Backup and Recovery Is Now Generally Available

Eon Data Protection for Microsoft 365 is now generally available to all customers, extending the same independent, automated protection Eon provides for cloud infrastructure to critical SaaS data. Eon automatically takes point-in-time backups of Microsoft 365 data and stores them as an independent, off-tenant copy in a vault you control.

What’s currently supported:

  • Exchange Online: Restore a single email, folder, or entire mailbox to a selected point in time.
  • OneDrive: Recover individual files and folders, including historical versions.
  • SharePoint: Restore sites and document libraries at granular levels.
  • Ransomware detection: Detect suspicious activity across protected OneDrive and SharePoint data.

Agentic Recovery with Microsoft 365 MCP

We also introduced a new approach to Microsoft 365 recovery built around the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

By connecting Microsoft 365 and Eon through MCP, an AI agent can work across both the live tenant and Eon’s protected historical data through a common interface. Instead of moving between consoles to search for an item, determine what happened, select a recovery point, and restore it, users can begin the workflow in natural language.

Eon provides the recovery context behind that experience. Indexed content, metadata, versions, and security verdicts help an agent identify both the right item and the appropriate recovery point.

Governance remains built into the workflow. Existing permissions continue to apply, while sensitive recovery actions can require Multi-Party Approval before anything is restored.

Cross-Cloud Protection for DynamoDB and Keyspaces

Eon now supports storing backups of Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Keyspaces in GCP and Azure vaults, giving customers more flexibility over where their protected copies reside.

Recovery remains back to AWS. Record-level restore is not yet supported for data stored in GCP and Azure vaults, but broader restore workflows are available today. This expands Eon’s cross-cloud protection model, helping organizations keep protected copies outside the source cloud while continuing to manage them through a single platform.

Instant EBS Volume Restore

Restoring an EBS volume no longer requires waiting for the entire dataset to copy down before you can start using it. With Instant EBS Volume Restore, a restored volume can be attached to an existing EC2 instance and accessed immediately. Data streams from the backup on demand in the background as blocks are read. For large volumes, this can significantly shorten the time between initiating a recovery and getting back to the data that matters.

Hunt for Threats Across Backups with YARA

Security teams can now use YARA rules to hunt for known threats across protected VM data. From Eon’s Threat Center, teams can request a YARA scan for an EC2 instance, Azure VM, or GCP VM. Eon runs the scan against protected data on its scanning infrastructure, with no agents and no impact on the production workload.

Teams can:

  • Select the resource and backup they want to investigate.
  • Bring their own YARA rule or scan using Eon’s built-in Forge rule set.
  • Run the analysis on Eon’s scanning node rather than production infrastructure.
  • Review rule matches, severity, and affected file paths directly in the Eon console.

This gives security teams another way to use their backup estate not just for recovery, but as a safe environment for proactive threat investigation.
