Eon now supports AWS-native Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR) for Amazon RDS and Aurora, enabling precise restores and centralized management from a single pane of glass. With Eon, new resources are discovered, classified, and brought into compliance via automatic policy enforcement for more comprehensive backup management.
To maximize protection, we recommend a dual-policy approach. For example, use a 7-day PITR policy for rapid, granular recovery, alongside an Eon snapshot policy for long-term retention, compliance, and easy database exploration.
Restore and Manage RDS PITR with Eon
Eon provides a unified interface to restore and manage RDS PITR across accounts and regions, with two primary workflows:
1) Restore to any point in time directly from Eon
For immediate recovery, Eon allows you to restore an RDS instance or Aurora cluster to any second. As long as AWS automated backups are enabled, Eon can auto-discover restore points, orchestrate the restore via a calendar-based view, and track progress end-to-end. This simplifies recovery and enables fast restores, even for resources not yet managed by an Eon backup policy.
2) Centrally Manage PITR Retention with Eon
For organizations seeking standardized backups, Eon acts as a unified solution to manage PITR configurations across accounts and regions. You can define a retention window, and Eon will automatically sync these settings with your AWS resources while storing recovery points in your own account. This ensures consistent protection and automated governance through Cloud Backup Policy Management (CBPM), and supports tiered strategies such as short-term PITR alongside long-term snapshot retention.
